Jeffrey Ferguson is a London based artist and lecturer.
His series Saved for the Nation explores the transformations of digital data.
Saved for the Nation: Enter for High Score is the current implementation of this practice. It serves as a disembodiment of information machine that looks at the evolving post human relationship with data.
Its title doubles as brief instructions for interaction, and references the first public virtual portal: the video game arcade. These original portals elicited a steep cost for personal entry in a local high score table, which was the only unscripted interaction available.
Modern virtual interaction defers costs and gives a promise of access to an abundance of information. By blending the modern promise with the small interaction of the high score table, the users are drawn into creating and editing the only content in this work.
